Garry S. Thomson, CD

     General Thomson was born in Dundee Scotland, attended high school in Thunder Bay and Kincardine, Ontario, and university at Waterloo College. He graduated from Pacific Western University in Los Angeles, California with a Bachelor of Science in Business.

     He began his military service as a cadet in the Corps of Kincardine District high School in 1955. In 1958, he joined the Canadian Army as an officer cadet, ROTP. He was commissioned in the Royal Regiment of Canada in 1963, where he later served as adjunct, company commander, SO2 Training, as Deputy Commander in 1973, and from 1976 to 1979 as Commanding Officer. During that period, the Royals won the General Kitching Trophy, the General Coffin Trophy and R.S.S. Trophy.

     In 1979, Brigadier General Thomson became Senior Staff Officer Training at the Toronto Militia District and, following a two year absence, returned as Deputy Commander in 1982. He commanded Toronto Militia District and, following a two year absence, returned as Deputy Commander in 1982. He commanded Toronto Militia District from 1986 to 1988, and subsequently served on staff at Central Militia Area, now Land Force Central Area. In March 1992, he was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Deputy Commander, Land Force Central Area.

     In Civilian life, General Thomson is Director, Association Division at Prudential Group Assurance Company in Toronto. He serves on the board of the Military and Hospitaler Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem and member of the Toronto Board of Trade. He is an active instrument-rated private pilot.
